Shreya Kumar - Indian Classical Dance in Delhi

Week 1 - 26th May to 2nd June 2005

Unfortunately if has been a very slow week for two basic reasons, firstly my computer crashed on 26th itself leaving me stranded as I couldn't gather much information using the internet, and secondly since its my first week it actually took time to register that I am working! Even after all the cribbing I have managed certain leads, which helped me through the week.

On the 27th I went to Triveni Kala Sangam on Tansen Marg where I gathered information on the diverse art forms taught and the artists as well. I had also fixed an appointment with eminent Bharatanatyam dancer Shrimati Jayalakshmi Eshwar that proved to be successful. She trains in the Kalakshetra style and holds classes in Triveni itself. On calling up a few numbers from notices put up on the Triveni message board I discovered a few more dancers in the Gole market area.
In between I fixed a meeting with renowned Odissi dancer Madhavi Mudgal at her residence at Golf Links. She teaches at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
I interviewed her on the 1st of June.
Its quite disheartening to hear most of the artists are out of town this week and next week hopefully the will be back mid June. I have been constantly calling people around me to increase my leads and database.
