Artist Sarojine Chopra Exhibition Venue: Ashoka Hotel Date: 21st - 31st July 2005
Sarojine Chopra (Born 1929), Lahore, Pakistan
Sarojine Chopra has been painting for a long time. However, this is her very first exhibition as she has chosen, all these years, to reflect her experiences and feelings for her own fulfillment and catharsis.
The momentous events of the 1947 partition of The Punjab, gave a focus for her to study the suffering and resilience of the human spirit. The mountains and environs of Simla added serenity to and greatly influenced her work.
She then went on to become a teacher at various schools and institutions where the playfulness of the child lent joy to her journey on canvas.
It is rare for an artist to hold her first public viewing at such a late stage of life, but those who are close to her have persuaded her to widen the scope of her audience.
This exhibition is an interesting combination of strong lines and joyful colours. Her sense of thematic content displays a thoughtful approach.
Sarojine is the younger sister of the well-known painter Krishen Khanna. Therefore her regular exposure to the world of Contemporary Art has been an important influence on her work. Her work deserves serious viewing.
Ashoka Hotel of Delhi are to be praised for their effort to bring affordable art to a larger number of viewers.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on 21st July at 6.00 p.m. by Krishen Khanna and will be on view upto 31st July
