Q Have you always worked on feature films, or did you ever do documentaries ? |
| I've always worked on feature films from the beginning. |
Q How many films have you worked on till now ? |
| I've worked on about six films. I first worked on a docu-drama with the BBC. The first feature film that I worked on was '3 AM' , in New York. Other projects that I have worked on are; Everybody Says I'm Fine, The Guru, Enjoy and Lakshya. |
Q What exactly was did you have to do with Lakshya ? |
| I was the second assistant director. An assistant director executes what the director has visualized. In India, many production houses don't use an assistant director to their best capacity, however that is slowly changing. |
Q Is an assistant director paid well ? |
| Well, that depends from project to project. I mean if I work for a big budget film, I'll definitely be paid very well, almost at par with what I would have been paid abroad. Earlier (about two years ago) we weren't paid very well. However, now an Assistant Director can demand a price and he will be paid. |
Q What qualifications do you need to become an assistant director ? |
| There are no qualifications as such. Experience is definitely required. I studied literature, and then went on to studying film for a year at the New York University (NYU). I also used to watch lots of films, especially international ones. |
