A large number of the miniatures consist of manuscript paintings rather than wall murals and frescoes that we find in pre-Mughal times.  The paintings were conceived and executed, as book illustrations accompanying text on paper closely linked to the literary narrative. Firoz Sahab gave me a record of books illustrated by the family of Mansur starting from 1825.
