Art form - It's fascinating sight to see the folk musicians of Rajasthan with their musical instruments, who besides dressing themselves in colourful attire, also decorate and embellish their instruments with beautiful trappings and ornamental coverings. They are people with music in their souls.
Bhagwandas is the most dazzling star of Qawwali, an ardent traditionalist and interpreter of Soufi music. Qawwali is the religious chanting songs emanating from the belief and amorous ardour of the 'Soufi's".
The Sufi songs are poems composed by great Sufi Saints/Masters. They can be sung individually or collectively, with or without musical instruments. Their transmission is from heart to heart so as to raise our emotion up to the level of the universe, and furthermore, to awaken the human to nostalgia for what is Divine in him.
About the artist - Bhagwandas Bhat is 55 years old, he has 8 children. He started to learn music instruments and to sing when he was 13 years old from his uncle. He has a melodious voice appropriate to sing Nazms, Ghazals and romantic and dramatiturge songs. His voice is a good treat to the ears. He has songs for every occasion with rich emotional content, almost an endless variety of tunes.
Other art Forms - Cum Dholoak Maestro, Harmonium player.
Teaching skills -He has taught his sons to play and sing. He is very proud of them and happy to see that the family traditional arts will continue through his sons and grand-children. Right now (june 2005) one of his son is abroad to perform for one month (in France).
Performance -He has been to many countries abroad : Pakistan, Dubai (for the Golden Jubilee of India's independence ), United states of America, France, Holland, Belgium, Scotland, Germany, Oman, Italy and Moscow. He is in great demand as much as in India (for cultural centres, Embassies, film festivals, Rajasthani festivals, for schools....) as abroad.
