Interview with Jaspal Singh by Shiv
Q WHEN DID YOU START PLAYING THE GUITAR ??
I started playing 24 years ago in 1982. I learnt how to play from A Man Named William George who used to play at hotels.
Q WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE UP CLASSICAL GUITAR ??
I started of playing the rhythm guitar but after I saw musical notation in a guitar magazine I was very curious to learn it and thus I joint delhi school of music as it was the only institute at the time which taught how to read music and since they strictly followed classical music only I slowly slowly went in to the line of classical guitar.
Q WHICH ALL CLASSICAL GUITAR STYLES DO YOU LIKE PLAYING ??
I have no favorite style. I like playing all of them as I enjoy playing the guitar.
Q IF NOT THE GUITAR, WHICH INSTRUMENT WOULD, YOU PLAY AND WHY ??
If not the Guitar I would option for the Piano since the Guitar and the Piano can be played solo they need no accompaniments.
Q YOUR FAVORITE GUITAR PIECE ??
Alhambra by Tarrega
Q WHICH KIND MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO ??
I enjoy listening to all kinds of music other than heavy metal.
Q WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE BAND ??
I like no band in particular. I like the Guitarist George Benson.
Q ADVISE YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS OF CLASSICAL GUITARISTS ??
Classical Guitar is a discipline that needs a lot of focus and regular practice in order to succeed in this field one has to be focused on classical guitar itself and should not divert their attention to other Guitaring styles.
