Arunima Kumar - Pottery in Delhi
Arunima Kumar - JMC
INTRODUCTION
The spirit of a city is within its people. While the landscape of a city changes with time, its spirit remains the same. It is reflected in the small details of the lives of its people and is reinvented in the creative work of every successive generation. This project attempts to capture the archaic spirit of Delhi as embodied in the art form of pottery.
The central theme of the project is to trace the development of studio pottery in Delhi as witnessed by prominent potters settled in the city. This theme is also explored from the perspective of the local potters of the city, many of whom are nationally acclaimed craftsmen.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
Identify eminent potters working in the city. Collect information about their work techniques through the interview method.
Collect information about places imparting lessons in pottery. Identify courses and scholarships available.
Draw a list of contact points for tools, clay, and other material.
Provide a brief account of the different forms of pottery found in the city and the sale points for the same.
Develop an annual calendar of pottery exhibitions in the city.
